Prior to the 1450s, knowledge was conveyed verbally and through primitive, and largely ineffective, methods of printing. However, Johannes Gutenberg’s innovation in printing technology enabled the acquisition of large amounts of knowledge, ideas, and philosophies through books. It was a revolutionary development.
Now, in the age of the Internet and visual media, video images have enabled us to share cultural expression and information together in one medium. Furthermore, the revolutionary development of mobile devices has enabled us to view media anywhere – not only at home and in offices, but in parks, airports and most open spaces.
We need to seek ways to fully utilize the tremendous power of visual media and the Internet. |

In our daily lives, we have easy access to information via many sources: TV news and entertainment broadcasting, movie rentals, internet blogs and direct transmission to our PDAs and mobile phones. There are many great programs, videos and films which provide us with information we need to know. They also give us information that energizes and impresses us – that motivates us to make changes to improve our lives and the world.
We propose that there is a need to establish a system of educational networks (cultural video blogs), to enlighten citizens through the proliferation of visual media. |

Just as books (now catalogued in libraries) have played a role in shaping our current cultural and media infrastructure, visual media – treated as cultural assets - will play an important role in shaping new generations through the Internet (a new style of library).
Harmony Eyes will catalogue selected video documentaries produced by everyday individuals, to create a new type of media archive, which will foster positive ideas and demonstrate that one person can make a difference.
In our modern society, we face many social problems: religious and ethnic conflicts, poverty, juvenile crimes, etc., which we have not yet learned to solve. Now is the time for individuals to create a way to “harmonize” with each other by sharing our ideas. Through our personal videos we can inspire, create awareness, evoke emotion and teach positive ideas on a global scale. Once we acknowledge the greatness of all humans, we will be able to gradually decrease the number of negative issues and move toward “harmony.” |
